The survival of the fittest

The age-old expression from the Darwinian evolution plays an important role in our daily life. We strive everyday to put our best foot forward; to show a best face at the work place, in our home and among our friends & dear ones. We always want to be a star performer on the stage, a great accompanier, a memorable entertainer, and overall a successful & admirable human being to be associated with.

The dedication and the energy we devote, coupled with the quest for achievement will put us on a fast track to the realization of goal. In between comes the recognition as pit stop which refuels our passion in the journey. We go to great heights, make a lot of sacrifices to get things done our way and to impress others with the outcome.

But the enthusiasm we put in the beginning of every activity tends to reach a saturation point and becomes a difficult task to move up from there. You may call it a point of ‘mid-life crisis’ or ‘comfort zone’. The achievement you have had so far gets on to your head and blocks your vision to go beyond. The mind loves to become dormant and the soul starts to dust in the laurels of the past.

We encounter an illusionary block in our way and get a doubt factor in the system. Worse is sometimes it becomes a melting point where all the achievements and good-will start to diminish and pulls us down, if we fail to act on it. We will realize that reaching the top is an easy thing, but being there is not.

The comfort zone you have settled in is not going to change the past but definitely going to shape the future. It may be a stressful activity to move out of that region but when you embrace change, you’ll realize that it’s a small discomfort you’re buying to entirely change the way the world perceives you and for the larger goodness of yourself for bigger achievements.

Constant focus and assertiveness is going to help in maintaining the place you have reached so far. Don’t settle down for anything less in the activities you undertake. Question everything that comes your way and challenge yourself to look beyond the goal. Don’t just aim for success; target sustainable success.

The way we start our day determines how it is going to end. Stretch your horizon after every single lap. Make yourself self disciplined, as only the fittest of the fittest will survive here. You’ll get a day only once in a life. Make sure to go MAD - Make a Difference!

12 things you can do in 2013

The beginning of the year gives so much of enthusiasm and fresh thoughts that can lift the spirits from down low. Imagine doing little things that can induce and make your heart & soul happy. Since the New Year has started, why not put an interesting task to do every month and give yourself a new experience all the time? Don’t mix this up with your long term resolution as these are little things you can do to break away from the usual stress and everyday routine.

Give some love:
How about giving some love to others? Find a list of people who can wet in the shower of your love. They can be your parents, friends, partner, a child next door, brothers/sisters, cousins, nephews or niece. Make sure you give time, boundless love and care to them and bask in the joy of reciprocation.

Connect with your old friends:
We might have moved on to explore new paths of life but try and discover the old treasure. Connect with long lost friends or attempt to trace them and find out what are they up to. Good old times can always make you feel better.

Forgive:
Practice the art of forgiving and expose your mind to a whole new path. Nothing can be achieved by holding on to anger and grudge. Give yourself a commitment to navigate to a good state of being. Make the other one realize your value by the forgiveness.

Eat and eat:
Food is the ultimatum of life. For a while forget about your diet and eat your heart out. Explore new cuisines that can tempt your taste buds and make you feel satisfied. Share the table with your dear ones and talk everything under the sun.

Make some new friends:
Discover and socialize with people who strike a chord with your wavelength and share similar thoughts. There’s always fun in meeting new people and gaining new experiences.

Show gratitude:
Make a list of people who helped you in the last year and give something back. Surprise them with your help when they least expect you. If not help, show your gratitude so that they keep up the spirit of helping hands to others.

Spend time with kids:
They are undoubtedly the most wonderful soul on earth to spend time with. Feel the tender touch, innocent smile and joyous heart. Make them speak and listen to it all through the day. You’ll regret for growing up and transform to a whole new world.

Say ‘yes’ for a month:
For a change, try not to say ‘no’ when someone asks you for help. Find ways to do whatever you can to fulfill the help. Enjoy the pleasure of making someone happy and be at the receiving end of gratitude.

Smile:
We tend to forget this in the midst of our hectic life. Smile with as many people as you can in a month. It always creates a ripple effect and the joy gets multiplied. Try to bring this on in other’s face when they are in a bad situation. Put a smile on them and make a happy tear.

Enjoy a morning walk:
Wake up early for few days and enjoy the sun rise. Have a fresh breathe and a calm walk to begin the day. Feel the dew drops and let the gentle sun rays kiss your face.

Stop by the sea:
Wet your feet in the waves and feel the grainy sand. Spend time in solace and get inspired. The mighty ocean and the clear sky can give you so much of peace and harmony to the soul.

Hit the road:
Explore the neighborhood places as much as you can. Live a life of an explorer and discover new things. Back pack and unveil the traveler in you. Join hands with like-minded people and enjoy a time of your life.

Think of shedding those bad memories from the past and move on from it. Give yourself a new day and a new experience. Life can be hard at times, but you have to find ways and do things to make it a memorable story that can be rejoiced in the present and the future.

Make it sweet

We often oversee the power of this simple thing called ‘smile’ in our life. In the name of professional outfit and stressful situations, we wear these face masks of grouchiness, seriousness, hatred, negativity et al. And they creep in without the knowledge of our perfect consciousness, and we won’t realize it until we introspect ourselves or a good friend points it out.

Everyone has problems in life. It might look like a daunting task if we see it within our framework of mind. There’s no guarantee that you always collide with wonderful and nice people. Also, the term ‘wonderful’ and ‘nice’ changes for the individual, according to the people we meet, time we spend and the purpose we fulfill.

Life tends to give a mix of both good and bad, to realize the value of former to latter. But that doesn't mean that you should change your good-self for others. Be yourself, happy and smiling even when you encounter a nut bunch. Ensure that it doesn't affect the very character which makes you ‘You’.

Happiness has got the right to stay with each and every one of us. There are moments and smiles waiting for a chance to jump out of us and spread the joy. There’s nothing called negative in this world; it’s a mere absence of positive-ness. If you feel like surrounded by such situation, pour a heavy dose of cheerfulness. Consider life as a film picture. You need to expose it to the right people to turn your negative to a positive, picture perfect moment.

Stretch your hand, heart and mind. Remember, happiness is wealthier than money and it gives you much more than what money can offer. Feel frivolous and collide your smile with others. Keep it simple, make it sweet, no complications.

Existence is a celebration

Life goes on with a long narration
It gives surprises without a prediction;
Your mind and heart will realize the sensation
As existence is a celebration

There’s no one needed to motivate you
To help see the happiness hue;
Get a hug from the loved few
And you’ll realize the déjà vu

To get back from a hit in desperation
Is the quest to victory in elation;
Mark the success as affirmation
With the force of your conviction

Enjoy the warm sun and have some fun
Don’t mistake the dew drops with tear drops;
In the midst of the noise try to listen to your inner voice
As it will show you your right choice to rejoice!

It’s always a good time

Many of us will be wondering how ‘good’ can exist all the time. Even if it is so, we will be curious to know how to bring more of those ‘goodness’ during our difficult times. Simply put, there are only two things that we come across, which evokes our emotion accordingly; Good time and the bad time.

Well, both exits all the time in a particular ratio, we tend to focus more on the ‘bad’ part when we are in a difficult situation. If we shift focus from our perspective and look at ourselves, we will find that even bad times have some bit of ‘good’ in it. Since it is in meagre ratio when compared to the other, we tend to look at that bigger picture and feel worried, challenged and beaten down.

The ideal thing to realize at these times is to make a small gesture to turn things upside down. Bad times occur because of the absence of good times. That means there’s less positivity in the atmosphere and an overdose of negativity. All it takes to boost up the moment is to increase the goodness ratio and pour a heavy dose of happiness into our bucket of emotions; so that the bad thoughts and feelings overflow and move out of our mind.

How you feel inside is really important and decides the outcome – be it good or bad. Moving out of the present ambiance will bring fresh thoughts and actions. That’s the reason many people rang up their closed ones when they feel low. They bring in a large ratio of goodness and share it with you. As you speak, the transfer of ‘goodness’ is done through encouraging words, love and gestures in lighter moments, which eventually pushes and erases the bad feelings. That’s the testament to the old wisdom - your sorrow gets divided and your happiness gets multiplied when shared with your loved ones.

So what it takes to change your mind and shift your mood? An ice cream? A coffee? A small talk? A hug? A kiss? A pet? A sunset? A chilly breeze? The world has a bounty of things to offer and to make us feel better. Our only task is to spot and seize the right thing. Whatever is yours, go grab it! After all we are here for good.

Buy the happiness pie

There were many arguments and discussions done before to find if money can really buy happiness. It’s such a powerful piece paper in the world which turns the life and fortune of the individual and the entire nation. It showed what greed and envy is, to the minds of few people. It showed what generosity and kindness is, to the hearts of few other people. But it didn’t answer one thing; can this really buy happiness?

Most of the monies spent on pampering yourself will be short lived and it’s a short sighted approach in seek of that innate treasure. It lifts you up for that temporary moment and goes down as fast as how it came up! There are many people who like the smell of currency but they hardly notice that it also gives the smell of gratitude, promise, love, happiness, contentment, glee etc.

You may not completely enjoy them by spending on yourself. Try spending them on others. No, not all your money, but that extra bit you throw lavishly on yourself. Look around and see people who are in need of this possessed paper. They aren’t looking for anything, but to get decent food, a good education for the next generation, a helping hand for medical expense.

If you really find it difficult to spot such people, don’t hesitate to look for an NGO and lend a helping hand. It’s an investment you do to make a life flourish and fly out with colours. It’s a beacon of light you show up for them to come out of a dark tunnel. The returns are pure bliss, contentment and happy tears which nothing else can provide.

Everybody knows that there’s always a joy in giving. That too if it truly touch others and bring a change in them, the joy you get has no boundaries. The gratitude you receive, the satisfaction you bring home to others, the love you get, and the delight you create; gets you much more than just happiness. You will create an ecosystem where the action gets repeated; you help them to come-up, they raise and help someone else, and that someone else raises and help others. It’s a chain reaction that you ignite today. If this happens, you really don’t have to buy happiness. It will buy you! :)

Smile please...

Most of the times we tend to forget this gifted treasure on earth. We feel grouchy when sad situation embraces us on a hard day. We often shed tears and cry like a baby (at least inside us) in such circumstances than standing tall and fighting back with a smile.

smile

May be we all still firmly remember our first activity on earth – crying. But hey when we grow up, we first learned this wonderful thing called smile. Our parents taught, our neighbors demanded, our relatives yearned but sometimes we cried more than we smiled.

Is it because this is the first thing we learned, we often forget to use? But we tend to oversee the power of this small gesture. The hard times cease to exist when you smile; at least it gives you confidence to take a head on with the problem.

It earns you respect from others; it gets you the trust from your partner, it speaks your love and care, it shows your pride, it exhibits your victory, it brings instant happiness, it can turn a stranger to a friend.

Laughter has always been considered as the best medicine. So why fret about petty things? Problems have always been there since the evolution of life, so does the solutions for them. But we discover the latter only after going through a mind trauma, that’s because we don’t see things which are right under our nose.

Remember, care enough to smile and scare enough to shoo away the grief. And don’t just stop there; try to bring it on in other’s life too. It’s a universal language that cuts across cultures and ethnicities. Happiness is wealthier than money. It can even make your tear drops look beautiful. So smile..., smile brighter than a shooting star and pass it on!

You are always fine

Sometimes in the middle of our life journey, we all tend to think that ‘why certain things are happening only to me?’ The usual thought of ‘why me all the time?’ crosses our mind in most of the challenging situations.

Life tends to give ups and downs, highs and lows to keep us away from monotony. We feel good to see something in action rather than in stationary. Look at the sea; every time the waves fall, they never fail to rise again. It’s fascinating to see them too.

Similarly, life’s problems are always required to keep us running in action rather than being a boring motionless object. Confusion helps to seek clarity; without the former, we won’t even think about the latter.

You’ll feel refreshed after overcoming the challenging situation. If you never try, you’ll never know your true strengths. The very thought of ‘being fine, staying good’ will make you mighty to face the task. But don’t quit and never say never.

People who pursue excellence never compromise. If you hate your life because of temporary problems, think again; for there may be someone, somewhere who's praying for a life like yours!

Falling down is a part of life; Getting back is living. Stay inspired and lead a fine life!

[Guest post – Princesa Fiona] Life is like that

Am introducing the first guest in this blog space. Am sure this poetess is already familiar with most of us in blogosphere. The beauty in crafting every line of her poem with the apt visual representation and the typography makes everyone wants to read her poems time and again. Here’s Fiona and her poetic passion for life, written for this blog.

Laughing ‘til you cry, crying ‘til you laugh.
Inhaling moments to breathe on life’s path.
Falling down and learning from every scar.
Exhaling joy as you dare to touch the stars.

Invite love to dance inside your beating heart.
Sustaining strength when thorns tear it apart.

Lavishing your senses in God’s scenery for free.
Investing spare time in the bank called 'Family’.
Kaleidoscope the visions of your gilded dreams.
Expelling dark colors that aim to dull the scenes.

Tomorrow is not promised so live your life today.
Happiness is on a pillow your head decides to lay.
Anand’s Musings massage my spirit to unwind.
Take a rest here to fuel the inertia of your mind!

Imaginary horizons

Open your mind and see
Open your heart and feel
Worries are there to leave behind
As they’ll make your life bland

If the sun is not warm anymore
That’s because of the clouds in action to the core
Don’t get stopped by temporary things
That will make you stand with blinks

Don’t break that smile
Let it all flow like a Nile
Don’t confine yourself within four walls
As there’s a world outside flowing like a falls

Don’t get stuck with a thought and stand in blue
All that’s needed is a child in you
Who can think the unimaginable
And tries to make it possible

Many times, we confine ourselves to imaginary, illusive boundaries and restrict ourselves to envision things beyond the limits. We tend to forget that we can sculpt our life with affirmative thoughts and be a masterpiece of our own world. All that’s needed is to knock the things that come our way. It may open up to a new paradise in life!

Be the serendipity of life

Life has got so much surprises and sweet encounters to give us every day on earth. But it was hardly noticed and appreciated by many. We are always in a hurry looking for greener pastures on the other side of everything. For a change, try to be the serendipity of life for others. Give your irrevocable time and bring a change.

For those who are in need of emotional support, try to be a guarantor of life, an evangelist of happiness, a Salvationist of surprises. There’s always a beauty in bringing change in other’s life. So don’t hesitate to offer help when someone is in need. May this year, you take a challenge to surprise and inspire as many people as possible.

You never know what will be the outcome. At the end of the year, you would’ve touched many number of lives beyond imagination. You will feel like the heavens opened up when you sit and recollect those happy tears and the smiles you brought on others. Remember one thing, what goes around, comes around!

Don’t judge yourself if you can do it. Don’t look for the perfectionist in you. Everyone is imperfection in some way or the other and that’s what makes us human. Even the shiny bright moon has dark shades, the romantic roses has deadly thorns. The beauty and the confidence have to be seen beyond the boundaries and it won’t be visible to the naked eye.

Let happiness sweep every one’s face and the smiles collide with each other. Let there be a burst of laughter and sheer joy in every corner of life. Let’s create a shield of happiness which can arrest sorrow and depression. Let’s hope everything to be alright and the soul sings happily forever.

Show your gratitude

We are nearing the end of a year and a new beginning is going to start soon for every one of us. A great way to give back something to life is by showing gratitude for all the things happened to you. Don’t forget to thank life for a smart you, for the courage it gave to speak out your opinion, the food and the good sleep, lovely folks at home and workplace, the ever recharged sun, the never ending love and the list goes on...

Always appreciate yourself even for the smallest achievements. Don’t expect others to give you a reward or a good review for your deed. Every time you do something remarkable, just pat yourself. Keep your mind happy and motivated for life’s biggest tasks and challenges.

Give attention to the people who makes your life worthwhile. Money and other materialistic possessions can be given by anyone. Don’t forget to give your time, yes, the irrevocable, precious and valuable time. Shower with your warm and care by being beside them.

Manage and spend your time responsibly. It’s a way of showing respect and gratitude to life for that intellectual property given to you. Time helps to earn loads of money, created billionaires, built spaceships and even empowered you to create a timeline by your children. But it never ever gave back that one second you spent in your life. So the value cannot be ascertained and it’s priceless.

Make everyday a thanksgiving day. Be grateful every morning for all the good and the bad things happened to you. Good things because it caused you happy moments, and bad things because it gave you a challenge to overcome and thank that you’re still alive! You will definitely feel a better day and a better life by showing your gratitude. Be inspired and have a great life!

An optimistic attitude

By nature, we all wanted to do something different in life. Every morning we wish the day to be good, occasionally we get thoughts that we should be a change agent and bring about a change in other’s life, bring liveliness in those gloomy moments and bring a smile in other’s face and touch the hearts of many.

Sometimes life just grants our wishes and makes us happy to the core. But there are other days where things just don’t get into the way we want. It creates a hyper tension moment or a mini tsunami sort of shakes inside the mind which irritates and disturbs the normal being.

These are quite typical in life. Like how you need both white and black keys in piano to create a wonderful music, you need “happy” and “not-so-happy” days to weave wonderful moments of life. You cannot truly cherish the happiness if you don’t know what challenges and sadness are!

In such hard times, don’t get panic or send those frightening signals to people around you. Stay optimistic and look for ways to recover to normalcy. Unfortunately our world is surrounded by lot of negative thoughts, displeasing events and stress. The important factor is not letting yourself dictated by such events.

It doesn’t matter what’s happening around you. If you can develop an optimistic attitude, you can take on any challenge and win the situation. Make an effort to replace any negative and pessimistic thoughts with optimistic ones. Optimism has cured cancer in the world. After all, our day-to-day silly problems can definitely be rectified by being optimistic.

If you feel low and want to recharge your optimism, go see the nature and get it for free. The morning sun rays are there to embrace you; the soothing breeze is waiting to kiss you; the clouds are looking to dance with you; the thunder lightning wants to take a snap of you and the stars keep winking at you. Look at those sea waves; every time when they fall, they never fail to rise again. Be inspired and stay optimistic!

It's a good life

There will always be a bit of dissatisfaction in everything we do and receive in life. We wonder it could’ve been better and things could’ve been more in abundance like more happy moments, lovely romances, sweet understandings, no fights, no grudges, more money, more comfort etc.

But before we demand too much or complain about anything, have we enjoyed everything that life has offered? Have we seen the positive side of all situations to make it look normal and good? We often tend to see one side of the situation and fish in shallow waters. Though we know that there’s other side to every situation and should think deep before coming to a conclusion and crib/whine about anything.

With the pressure in work side and in life, we say that peace of mind is lost and want to get it back. Remember, solutions always lie within the vicinity of the problem. You cannot find the key in the light when you’ve lost it in the dark! Have a serene walk by the beach, do an open talk with your close mate over a cuppa coffee, enjoy a child’s smile, smell a bunch of roses in the bouquet. And make sure you find time to enjoy such things in life.

Money and other materialistic things cannot determine your peace of mind and happiness quotient. If you feel that having less money or those physical possessions are the reason, you’re guiding your mind in a wrong direction.

With money, you can buy a bed but not sleep, buy music but not peace of mind, buy a pet but not a life. Learn to enjoy things that are given rather than cribbing about things that are not given to you. The best things in life are all around us and they are free - hugs, friends, smiles, family, sleep, love, laughter, memories etc. Devote attention to them and enjoy. It’s a good life!

The art of forgiving

Misunderstanding and silly fights are very common in our life. But the most important thing is the tenacity of the fight, its longevity and the aftermath effects in our mind. Initially it may seem to be a war of words, just between the lips and eyes. But later, hatred creeps in and makes it a fight between the hearts.

To avoid it and find an amicable end, we have this wonderful thing called ‘forgiveness’. But many people don’t know the art of forgiving. They tend to fight back with full force thinking that they are getting close to victory for the heart. But actually they never know they are hurting themselves with feelings.

We are going to get nothing good by holding on to anger. It will only burden the heart and obsess the mind with negative thoughts about the other person. But just think of forgiveness; it means getting back to normalcy, getting back to being together, a peaceful rest for the mind, a feast for heart by happiness and tranquil for the soul by forgiving.

It does a good thing not just for you; it also heals the other heart. It’s a commitment to navigate to a good state of being. It’s about caring for yourself and your inner spirit. It’s like putting your heart into the ocean of peace.

Weigh the situation and your corresponding reaction to it. Analyse the effects on your life and actively decide the course of action - that’s either forgiving or moving on. Don’t wear that victim tag.

You cannot describe your life by how many times you are hurt, but how many times you have pardoned. Care about yourself and for others. Forgiving can heal you, heal others, heal the society and the world.

Live "your" life

We often say we enjoy our life and we are happy for the way life leads us. But deep inside the heart, there are small questions that nag us every time. Is this really that you wanted to be? Is this the thing that you wanted to do in life?

During our younger days, most of our decisions are influenced by our parents, friends or other external forces. It may sound safe or promising at that moment but years later, the heart will yearn that you could’ve done something different in the past, if you had taken your own decision.

This is where passion steps in. We tend to develop our long overdue desires into a passion. Had we done that before, it could’ve given a great livelihood and fame (not to forget happiness and satisfaction) but time play a spoilsport and rule over the heart. And we may not have been in a position to take decisions on our own because of the age factor.

But after grown up, never miss an opportunity to do what you like. Your heart will lead you to new explorations and ideas. Just have some ears on it and move on in that direction. Who knows, you may be lucky enough to discover a new paradise in life.

Never get influenced by others when it comes to life. They have no say on how you should be or what you should be doing. Also never live a life for other’s sake and compromise your desires. It will be like letting yourself out of you to satisfy others. It may please the other person for a brief period but it will definitely hurt you at some point of time. Life is just too precious to be wasted!

A recognition - My first blog award!!

A first step towards a long journey and during the course of action, a motivation, a recognition will take your heart to the greatest of happiness, like you've discovered a paradise...

Yes, I received my first blog award and am honored to get this. Thank you very much Ashwini. It means a lot!! A push to go that extra mile, a smile to realize the outcome of the efforts put in. Thank you very much to every one who stopped by my blog and expressed your kind words to each post. Every comment is very special indeed.

And as per the rule, let me list out 7 things about myself and pass it on.

1. I tend to take life easily. Of course there are many times where my heart puts pressure to take it seriously, but that's a momentary thing for me and I move on.

2. I have a lot of faith and belief in me. Even if I have the greatest challenge, somehow things will change the way I want. May be because of the belief system and positivity I guess :)

3. I take inspirations from day-to-day life and from others. Sometimes book can't teach you practical things you know.

4. I always think twice and measure my words before letting it out.

5. I just can't take betrayal. My heart becomes a villain to such people and can never accept them.

6. I like to meet new people and bring them on board in my life.

7. Last, Writing was never my passion before. This was a hobby I pursued and turned out to be good and now I developed a passion for it :)

I will soon update the post as to whom this award goes to.

Thanks a lot!!

Move on

Life, for all of us has been given to move on in a constant pace, to progress and not to stay stationary. We may often tend to rest and stay for a while and our heart yearn for it. But the mind always tends to push ourselves to a great limit and help us achieve those wonders.

When life tosses you with too many struggles and obstacles, neither break nor stay put in one place. There will be a lot of things waiting to be uncovered so keep moving. Don’t ponder the same thing that caused you a worry, a defeat or a set-back. Look for solutions rather than thinking about that problem.

Our heart has an unusual habit of keeping the problem, getting stuck and making us feel bad rather than searching for a solution to fix it. Use your mind and be rational to move on from the current situation. This could just be a passing cloud blocking you to see the sunshine.

You have the potential to decide your state of mind and don’t let that bad feeling stay in your heart. It will block the happiness entering the mind. It’s like blocking the blood entering the heart. Better save yourself from that mind attack!

The more you stay put on a problem, the more that could pile up in front of you to fix. So just walk on to search for the key to happiness and add some spice to life. Every time you can’t be nice to everyone. When something is nagging you, just ignore or stamp on it and move on. There’s nothing to feel bad about it.
